the belly of a black winged bird

I have had the words of a Damien Rice song go through my head for the last couple of weeks.  "Why do you sing Hallelujah, when it means nothing to you?" The lyrics of the irish lad have once again made me contemplate why I'm a Christian.  A friend recently said, "We're all a little less Christian than we used to be!"  In truth I may not have the self-righteousness of youth but my faith in the message of the cross has not diminished. 

Ultimately it comes down to this.  When I am alone in my own thoughts at night and I view life around me and whether it be right or it be wrong I believe that there is a God responsible for all of this.   If thats the case then what is this God like? I haven't a clue but I am offered a choice.  I find that the God of the bible, the God depicted on the cross is the one that makes most sense to me.  The God who persues relationship.  I do get frustrated because if there really is a God and I have a relationship with him through Jesus, then I can't but help think there should be a much greater impact in my life.  But I love the Jars of Clay lyrics. "I aint giving up on giving you the chance to blow my mind!" So in the meantime it says in Micah "What does the Lord require of you - "to act justly, to love mercy to walk humbly before your God." and thatts not a bad creed to live by.
